License

Use of Fluendo SDK requires a license, there are two types:

  • Development License which allows organizations or individuals to develop and locally test new applications using the Fluendo SDK API. It includes:

    • Installation package.

    • Documentation, including a set of samples and tutorials.

    • Support for bug resolution and software update (if you need support regarding Fluendo SDK please contact us using support@fluendo.com).

  • Runtime License which allows organizations or individuals to distribute their finished application developed using the Fluendo SDK API. The runtime license is a perpetual license that is tied to each device where the finished application is installed.

Licensing

  • Fluendo SDK has a proprietary license that allows the creation of commercial products based on the Fluendo SDK API (More details can be found in the Eula License).

  • Fluendo SDK uses third-party open-source solutions which can be integrated into commercial applications using LGPL or MIT licenses. All the open-source licenses used as part of Fluendo SDK can be found inside the installation folder.

Codecs and Patents

Some Audio and Video codecs are subject to patents. Use of these codecs in commercial applications requires payment of royalties to the patent holders. Fluendo is a licensee for all the patented codecs provided with the Fluendo SDK.

Runtime license of Fluendo SDK includes licenses for the following patented codecs:

  • Video codecs included in runtime license:

    • Advanced Video Coding (H.264 / AVC)

    • High Efficiency Video Coding (H.265 / HEVC)

    • Windows Media Video (WMV)

    • SMPTE 421M (VC-1)

  • Audio codecs included in runtime license:

    • High-Efficiency Advanced Audio Coding (HE-AAC)

    • Windows Media Audio (WMA)
