Use Cases

Zero-trust visual privacy in remote work

In highly regulated sectors such as healthcare, finance, and government, the shift to remote work has introduced significant security liabilities. A remote worker’s webcam background could accidentally broadcast sensitive information, such as patient data on a whiteboard, confidential financial charts, or unauthorized personnel in the frame. Traditional server-side background removal solutions require raw, unedited physical video to traverse the network before AI processing, creating risks of accidental data breaches and regulatory non-compliance. While endpoint-based solutions can sanitize video before it enters the network, they face two primary hurdles: first, standard DaaS and VDI protocols do not natively recognize these processed streams as valid local camera devices; second, the intensive AI processing required often exceeds the computational capacity of thin clients and consumer hardware.

Conceptual Design

Edge-level visual privacy architecture

Policy-enforced background standardization via client-side redirection

A background-standardization layer would integrate into the endpoint client device via a redirection module. It would intercept the local webcam feed and apply AI segmentation at the edge before the video enters the remote session.

Standard RDP or Citrix Virtual Channels would redirect the processed stream to the VDI server as a virtual camera. In-session applications such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet would recognize it as a native device and enable centralized server-side management.

This edge AI solution ensures visual compliance by preventing the clients’ backgrounds from entering the network or RDP tunnel. Offloading optimized AI processing to client hardware also would reduce bandwidth and VDI server load, improving scalability without adding server compute costs.

value-proposition-1

Regulatory compliance

The solution would ensure absolute visual compliance with regulations like GDPR or HIPAA by preventing sensitive background data from leaving the local device or entering the network.

value-proposition-2

Risk reduction

By removing the background at the edge, the risk of accidental data exposure over the network or on remote servers would be eliminated, protecting organizations from potential breaches.

value-proposition-3

Integration

The solution integrates as a standard virtual camera redirected to the remote server. This would allow conferencing applications such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or Webex to recognize the feed as a native webcam device and enable policy-enforced, centralized configuration on the server.

value-proposition-4

Cost reduction

Offloading AI processing to the endpoint device would reduce costs by reducing server compute, improving server density and scalability, and reducing bandwidth consumption.
