Fluendo, the leading company in multimedia solutions based in GStreamer has signed a distribution agreement with Codeweavers, the worldwide contributing leader in the Wine project – the core technology found in all of its CrossOver products.
Through this agreement, Codeweavers will expand its portfolio by adding 2 new solutions:
- Fluendo ONEPLAY Codec Pack: a complete set of multimedia plugins which allow users to experience unmatched playback quality while adhering to the international audio and video patents.
- Fluendo ONEPLAY Player: a cross-platform multimedia player that reproduces all formats providing high quality video on Linux, Windows and OSX. ONEPLAY Player enables legal multimedia use as it includes all necessary patent licenses. It also includes fully certified and licensed DVD playback capabilities.
The partnership brings together two companies who have the same philosophy regarding Open Source and Proprietary Software: there is a place for both models to co-exist. By commercializing their products and solutions, both companies can continue their contributions to the open source community. Codeweavers via the Wine project and Fluendo via the GStreamer community. Even their respective flagship products, CrossOver and ONEPLAY, combine open-source cores, with proprietary components that comprise their added value.
“We are really proud to collaborate with CodeWeavers. Its wide customer base and its global distribution network opens an opportunity for Fluendo to expand its legal cross-platform multimedia solutions to new regions and users”, says Mercè Delgado, CEO of Fluendo.
According to James Ramey, “The partnership with Fluendo allows CodeWeavers to provide our clients with incredible multimedia solutions. The Fluendo ONEPLAY suite provides the most comprehensive set of multimedia plugins available today. And because Fluendo is adhering to the international audio and video patents, our clients can be assured of their rightful use of their multimedia content on the Mac and Linux platforms. This is very exciting for CodeWeavers, and we look forward to continued success in working with Fluendo.”
