Artificial intelligence is transforming the audiovisual industry at an unprecedented pace, particularly in synthetic voice and speech generation. While these technologies unlock new creative and production possibilities, they also raise critical questions around data protection, consent, voice ownership, and legal compliance.

At Fluendo, we believe that innovation must be built on trust. This belief is at the heart of IA·Veu, a collaborative project developed alongside Idea Sonora and the Audiovisual Cluster of Catalonia, aimed at creating a legal, ethical, and transparent AI voice generation system in Catalan.

Why IA·Veu? Closing the trust gap in AI voice technology

Many existing AI voice synthesis platforms rely on opaque models, often developed outside the European Union and without clear guarantees around training data, consent, or intellectual property. This can expose voice professionals to unauthorized voice cloning and companies to significant legal and regulatory risks.

This lack of transparency has fueled widespread distrust in AI voice technologies—especially in professional audiovisual contexts, where sound quality, rights management, and legal certainty are essential.

IA·Veu was created as a professional-grade alternative for the Catalan audiovisual sector: a tool that is designed to be:

  • Legally secure: Fully aligned with the European Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act)
  • Ethically sourced: Built on data collected in controlled environments with explicit professional consent.
  • High-fidelity: Engineered to meet the demanding standards of dubbing, voice-over, and post-production

IA·Veu: A European, trustworthy alternative

As the technical engine behind IA·Veu, Fluendo brings its extensive expertise in multimedia software and AI infrastructure to build a system that compromises on none of quality, safety, or compliance.

Our approach is based on three key pillars:

  • Proprietary AI infrastructure: Unlike solutions that depend on third-party APIs, Fluendo has developed a dedicated infrastructure that ensures biometric voice data remains secure, controlled, and fully traceable throughout the entire production lifecycle.
  • Compliance with the EU AI Act: We work closely with AGM Abogados on the legal framework and with Eurecat on cybersecurity and data protection. This collaboration ensures that our AI models are not only innovative but also legally robust, helping set a benchmark for how AI regulation can be applied in creative industries.
  • Strengthening Catalan in professional digital environments: While initiatives such as AINA have laid important foundations for the Catalan language in AI, IA·Veu goes a step further by focusing explicitly on the professional audiovisual market. The project ensures commercial-grade reliability and high-end sound quality, supported by close collaboration with Catalan voice professionals.

AI voice technology designed for the audiovisual industry

IA·Veu is not a generic text-to-speech solution. It is purpose-built for the professional audiovisual industry, where requirements for audio consistency, technical robustness, and production integration are particularly high.

The collaboration with Idea Sonora, a company with deep expertise in professional voice-over and dubbing, ensures that IA·Veu responds to real-world production workflows rather than abstract or experimental use cases. At Fluendo, our role is to transform these needs into scalable, high-performance AI and multimedia technologies.

From reflection to real implementation

IA·Veu represents a major milestone for Fluendo as our first generative AI project. So far, our work in artificial intelligence has been primarily focused on discriminative AI, applied to tasks such as analysis and detection. With IA·Veu, we take a step further by entering the field of generative AI, expanding our technological capabilities.

This initiative builds on our long-standing commitment to multimedia security, ethical technology, and responsible innovation. It also incorporates robust content provenance and traceability mechanisms, aligned with initiatives such as C2PA. Our system will allow generated audio to be clearly identified as AI-generated using Fluendo technology, supporting the protection of intellectual property rights and greater transparency across the audiovisual ecosystem.

Shaping the future of AI voice, responsibly

IA·Veu is currently under development, but it already raises a fundamental question for the future of the audiovisual sector: not whether artificial intelligence will be integrated into creative processes, but under what conditions it will be.

At Fluendo, we believe that innovation is most effective when it is collaborative and responsible. We are proud to help define those conditions and to build AI voice technology that professionals can truly trust.
