In 2015, Fluendo S.A. provided legal software for playing audio and video in compliance with copyright laws to a total of 996,000 thin clients worldwide. The company boasts 19.61% market share and its main clients include HP, Dell and IGEL.
In 2015, 5,769 lawsuits were filed in U.S. courts — the second highest figure ever and 15% more than the previous year. According to the Unified Patents organisation, 63.6% of cases involved technology patents. Large multinational IT companies were affected by lawsuits involving patents for the video and audio compression of their products. To solve this legal problem, Fluendo brings together the key patent holders in the market such as Microsoft, MPEG LA, Microsoft, Via Licensing, Dolby and Technicolor.
Mercè Delgado, Fluendo CEO, warns that “intellectual property related to playing multimedia files is a headache for manufacturers and corporations, especially given the rise of content platforms and social media. Fluendo thus specialises,” she adds, “in developing GStreamer-based multimedia software solutions that ensure legal and high-quality playback of all audio and video formats on the market”.
Ever since it was founded more than a decade ago, Fluendo has been a pioneer in launching multimedia products based the GStreamer development framework. The company continues its commitment to ensuring compliance with intellectual property laws. Its flagship product, Fluendo Codec Pack, allows hardware OEMs to include the necessary plug-ins to play the main multimedia formats on the market. These are delivered to their devices with their respective patent licenses for distribution. This is possible thanks to Fluendo’s collaboration agreements with leading patent owners.
As part of its firm commitment to innovation, Fluendo has expanded the functionality of its products to reach new market segments such as Internet of Things, in-car infotainment and mobile technology. It has also developed new lines of business in the multimedia field such as its sports video analysis product LongoMatch PRO.
